Skepta Covers ‘The Fader’

For their summer issue, The Fader nabbed four artists for its cover, and have been rolling out the stories for the past two weeks. First off was Meek Mill, then country star Kacey Musgraves, then producer extraordinaire Hudson Mohawke, and finally, here’s Skepta.

The UK grime MC has been picking up a lot of steam in the states in the past year or so, collaborating with A$AP Bari, befriending Drake, and backing Kanye West up at his “All Day” live debut, and now, he’s getting ready to release his next album. Speaking to the magazine, he was steadfast in his desire to not let the newfound American popularity affect his UK roots. When asked if recent sessions with Drizzy and Earl Sweatshirt would change the sound of his project, he responded:

“I don’t care what they feel about it. They have to come on my wave—that’s the only thing that’s going to give my album what it needs. I understand the objective now, and I ain’t going to fucking America to shoot a video. They need to come to the roads with me.”
